Sensitization and help to the local population

We went in India with the intention of meeting gibbons and even if this was accomplished and gave us an immeasurable hapiness, we have met people too, their story, their suffering and their daily difficulties.

If the support to the local population, in other words the Garo, is part of the Conservation Program of the Hoolock, it is also source of a humanist thought in the general idea of salving sufferings.

A program of conservation, especially if it comes from foreigners will be able of nothing without the support of the authorities, but also the one of the population living there. It implies the respect of the culture, the customs, the language and people. At present, we have the support of a part of the local people, who are conscient of the actual problems and the consequencies on the long term; anxious about the success of the Project.

Sensitization and help to education are keys for the success of wild populations and forests conservation. In effect, at present, if certain are conscious of the disappearance of their natural patrimony, too much people still unconscious, too much worried about their own survival to be able to see the calamities of the world. Naturally, when we are not hungry it is easier to think to the future…

This is for this last reason and also by humanism, that we want as well to overcome several other specific problems and gaps of this region, notably to the lack of medical cares and malnutrition, responsible of 60% of the child mortality, the paludism occupies the last 40% (We want to point out that this desease is widely neglected in comparison with the researches done on the HIV virus that touch the rich countries; paludism is the first killer of the world.).

Some actions have been realized in this sense like the distribution of rapid tests for malaria (p.falciparum) and the transport of the sick persons to the civil hospital (Tura). The villagers can join us everytime even during night in emergency case.

The Silsotchigre Wildlife Medium english school, the school of the program, reinforce the sensitization towards the children, providing them in the same time better basis for their future.

Finally, some ponctual actions, as the collect of clothes (in France) or the supplying of rice and other basis products are realized to answer to the needs of the isolated villages.
